We
are a working Community and all are expected to assist to the best of
their ability with any work required.
This can be with the farm animals (hand-milking cows, rearing pigs
and sheep, care of fowl), working in the gardens, with building
maintenance, in the kitchen and with daily household chores.
Generally a daily commitment to work of five to six hours, five to
six days a week, is made.
As
well as the daily, monthly and annual 'round', we tackle some large
'one-off' projects.
Over
last few weeks we have cut, transported and stacked over 20 tonnes of logs
which has been part of restoring one of our neighbour's hedges.
We have now moved the office
into the 'new barn'- a self-build project, completed last year.
The old dairy and boot room were converted into accommodation last year
by a local builder, but we were able to gut the building in preparation
and to do all the finish in terms of decoration, carpet-fitting and soft
furnishings.
We plan to start another
'self-build' project in May 2008. The present 'annexe' will
not only be restored, but will also be doubled in size to provide 4
units of accommodation and disabled facilities.
The main house is in
excellent order: the common room and the dining room having been
decorated by a small team of guests, ably led by Eddie who was a painter
and decorator before settling at Pilsdon for a few months.
Shirley
- you can see her in the kitchen preparing lunch, bottom left, is one of
our trustees. She has a real eye for colour and advised on
colour schemes.
WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE A COMMUNITY OF PEOPLE BURSTING WITH SUCH A RANGE OF
TALENTS!
