The Pilsdon Community seeks to provide an environment where people can rebuild their lives after experiencing a crisis, whether sudden or progressive. Since 1958, we at the Pilsdon Community have been offering a refuge to people in crisis, those working through depression, alcoholism, addiction, divorce or bereavement.

The Community also welcomes people who wish to find a time to reflect on their lives before making a change in direction, or just want time-out to live as part of a Community.

Our guests come from all walks of life; rich and poor, young and old. It is not necessary to have a specific reason or illness to come to Pilsdon.

To all, we offer friendship and hospitality, as well as traditional Christian charity. At any one time, Pilsdon houses an average of twenty-five people. Some of these will be Community Members and their families.  Everyone who stays at Pilsdon, guest, visitor, wayfarer, volunteer or community member participates fully in the life of the Community.

Truly unique challenge

Pilsdon – a Christian place touching the lives of all who visit

A leader is sought for Pilsdon, a Christian Community offering hospitality to guests in all kinds of need in an old manor house in beautiful West Dorset

Applicants for residential wardenship should be mentally and physically robust, mature (not necessarily in age) and be empathetic with - and enjoy - a rich variety of people. A broad theology or spirituality plus the ability and enthusiasm to lead the community in the next phase of its life are also essential.

The round of daily prayers underlies everything – the Community is ecumenical but Anglican-based.  Everyone, members and guests, take part in the daily rhythm of work, whether on our smallholding or household chores.
Pilsdon also has a supportive group of trustees and local volunteers.

The warden (partnered or single) receives a small personal allowance, lives free, has private accommodation, 40 days holiday and pension contributions.

Please ask for an information pack from our administrator Alan Frost on 01308 868308 or pilsdon@btconnect.com

Would you consider expressing your vocation within community living?

The Pilsdon Community, Dorset
(now in its 6th decade)

We are looking for new Community Members to come and be part of its life.

We are an ecumenical Christian community with an Anglican foundation, seeking to live out a sustainable lifestyle on twelve acres of land. We aim for a spirit of inclusiveness and acceptance in the hospitality we offer to those recovering from a life crisis, to respite visitors and to wayfarers. We seek a life balanced by a mix of prayer, manual work and recreation. A sense of vocation to community living and service is essential. So is a physical and emotional robustness!
